Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing gas mileage for an SUV this size! We have owned our Discover HSE lux diesel for two months now. Overall it is a very nice SUV. We purchased the diesel version for the greater fuel economy. So far it has met and exceeded our expectations in this area. This SUV replaced an eight year old Honda Pilot which averaged about 16 to 17 MPG. Our Discovery averages about 22 to 25 MPG doing the same types of mixed driving trips. However, because of the difference in price between 87 octane gasoline and diesel in the United States there really is no cost savings. We now use about 30 percent less fuel than we used to use in the Honda so we feel better about driving a SUV and its impact on the Earth's finite fuel supply. An added benefit with the diesel is the dramatic increase in torque. On paper our Discovery accelerates very close to our BMW 3 series. As far as driving qualities the Discovery is a dream to drive. The adaptive cruise control and drive assist options still amaze me with how far automotive technology has come in toward self driving cars. We have not used any of the off road capabilities yet but we feel confident it can handle whatever mother nature throws at it and we look forward to trying it out this winter in the snow. In the interior, the seats are very comfortable and adjustable to almost every height. I am over six feet tall and my wife is 5'6" and neither of us have a problem adjusting the seats to our comfort. Now for some negative issues. The "Touch Pro" system is very poor and the worst thing about the vehicle. This really is an issue because the entire car runs through it. It seems like the entire system is running on an outdated slow CPU. When you touch the screen and try to do many of the functions, which there are too many to mention in this review, there is often times a huge lag in response. The voice recognition system I believe goes through the same system because when you push the button to use the voice control system there is about a 5 to 10 second delay before the car is ready to listen to you. Once it does start listening it seems to get it right most of the time. The center display quality is ok. It is very hard to see traffic indications on the map in navigation mode because of the faded pallet and lack of contrast used in the overall presentation. They should have used more primary colors like is used in the driver's instrument console display instead of faded color scheme. It looks "pretty" but is not practical. We definitely expected a better more refined infotainment in a +$80k SUV. Land Rover really needs to spend more time developing this. If you are used to using the BMW iDrive system you will be very disappointed with how clunky Land Rover's interface is. Another quirk which is annoying is the use of the back up camera and the parking aids. When you place the car in reverse the back up camera automatically turns on which is expected. However, in order to turn on the graphic aids and sensors you have to manually push the button on the screen every time to turn that portion on. There does not seem to be an option to have this come on automatically when the back up camera is used. There are some other areas where Land Rover "cheaped out" in the interior trim. The "hidden" storage/ CD/DVD access behind the AC controls would not open at first. The Land Rover dealer we purchased the Discovery from in Massachusetts did a "quick" fix to get it off their car lot and told me there was a special technique to opening the access by pushing the open button and pulling on the volume knob at the same time. Since I was a new Land Rover owner I bought their explanation at the time until a few weeks later the door would not open at all. When I brought the vehicle to my local Land Rover service here in Virginia they immediately told me this was not right and have ordered parts to repair it. I have an appointment next week to fix it under warranty so hopefully it should not be an issue. We are very disappointed on how the the Land Rover dealer in Massachusetts handled it even though they physically had the car over three weeks to fix it and totally failed to do anything. Luckily I will not have to deal with the Massachusetts dealer again. Lastly, three other issues. First, the seat belt retaining clips for the third row seats are required for seat folding operation but very poorly designed and almost useless. The clips themselves barely hold the seat belts out of the way and you have to stay on top of it when you try and fold down the third row seats or the seat belts may get snagged as the seats fold. Second, we were surprised to find out it seems the back half of the car body and rear hatch is made out of plastic or composite material. Not a show stopper but we assumed a SUV with incredible off road capability would be made stronger. Third, we were also surprised Land Rover does not use a "condition based" preventive maintenance system like our BMW and Honda do. Instead, they use the old fashion maintenance "schedule" which does not take into account actual driving conditions. In closing, overall we really like the Discovery. The styling, the drive quality, the interior comfort are very good if not excellent. However, for an SUV in this price range we expected it to be more in the same level as our BMW 3 series. It is not. It is missing the little extra in fit finish and refinement for this class of SUV.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love my Disco! My 2018 Discovery is a pleasure to drive -- luxurious, capable, fun. It hits a sweet spot between size and drivability, big enough to hold a bunch of stuff or people, but it doesn't feel like a giant behemoth like other SUVs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very capable luxury SUV I have owned Explorers or its sister vehicles (Mountainers, Aviators) for over 25 years, and the Discovery has much better off-road performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have it a month but like it very much I have the Discovery about a month and a half and like it very much. Still getting used to all of the features. Had one small hiccup when my display panel had a warning that “radio is unavailable “. I am still checking with dealer on that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoying the ride. Moving from the '15 LR4 to '18 Discovery was easier than I imagined. I love the styling, added fuel-efficiency, and overall experience of driving my "Disco."
